Do the Right Thing is a 1989 American comedy-drama (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comedy-drama) film produced, written, and directed by Spike Lee (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spike_Lee) . The story follows a Brooklyn neighborhood's simmering racial tension, which culminates in tragedy on a hot summer day.


The film was a commercial success and received numerous accolades, including Academy Award (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academy_Awards) nominations for Best Original Screenplay (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academy_Award_for_Best_Original_Screenplay) and Best Supporting Actor (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academy_Award_for_Best_Supporting_Actor) for Aiello's portrayal of Sal the pizzeria owner.
