We hear how symbolist artist Sean Jefferson, was called into painting via an Enochian magic ritual and the unfolding of his innate Spiritualist Mediumship which eventually led to his connection with the Ruralist movement (The Brotherhood of Ruralists).
We take a look at some of his paintings and discuss his relationship with the characters in these images, how the paintings themselves come into form via automatic painting and the range of people’s responses to the images.
Sean shares some personal experiences including a childhood malevolent tree presence, a ‘fetch’ encounter and his ancestral spirit guide, 'Michael Foy' who has inspired his forthcoming book 'The Alchymical Garden of Michael Foy’

Sean is giving a free talk on the visionary art of nineteenth century painter, Richard Dadd at Messums Gallery, St James London on Wednesday 29th July:
"Jefferson will reflect on the role of imagination, myth, and inner vision in artistic creation, offering insights into how artists translate intangible experiences into visual form.
Sean will also draw on his own practice, using works-in-progress images to consider how visionary imagery is conceived, built, and brought into being.
Through close looking and thoughtful discussion, the talk will open up the intricate details of Dadd’s work, inviting audiences to consider their layered meanings and enduring fascination.
This promises to be a rich and engaging evening for anyone interested in art, symbolism, and the creative process.”
