In this video, Dr. Brian Shmaefsky explains environmental physiology. Dr. Brian Shmaefsky is currently a lead professor of environmental sciences at Lone Star College – Kingwood, near Houston, Texas. His research interests are environmental physiology related to phytoremediation. However, his current professional activities include developing sustainable environmental quality strategies for less economically developed nations and consulting on environmental justice policy. Dr. Shmaefsky has done projects in Bangladesh, China, Colombia, Honduras, Mexico, the Philippines, and the United States. He is actively involved in several professional organizations including the American Association for the Advancement of Science, ASTM International, Ecological Research Education Network, Ecological Society of America, and Sigma Xi - The Scientific Research Honor Society Dr. Shmaefsky volunteers on many natural resources committees and has given many community talks on natural resource conservation and sustainable development in addition to educating policy-makers about environmental issues. Dr. Shmaefsky also consults on community-based science projects, particularly related to pollution remediation. He has authored a variety of books and articles on phytoremediation, human diseases, and science education.
