On March 8, 2023, an officer with the Edgewood Police Department initiated a traffic stop after checking a license plate through a database, which indicated the vehicle's owner had a suspended driver's license and a seize tag order.
Upon making contact, the officer explained the reason for the stop to the driver, an adult female. The driver became upset and argued that her license was not suspended. While the officer was seizing the license plate, the driver exited the vehicle, became argumentative, and refused repeated commands to return to the vehicle. After the license plate was removed, the driver walked toward the patrol car, yelling and refusing the officer's command to return to her vehicle.
The officer informed the driver that her license and tag would be seized and her vehicle would be impounded. The driver then returned to her vehicle. When a backup officer arrived and pulled alongside the patrol car, the driver put her vehicle in drive and fled the scene at a high rate of speed through the parking lot. Both officers pursued the vehicle and were able to stop it.
