Enough
The beckoning paperback
after three pages
slides silently off the duvet
my lids heavy
allowing sleep’s simple narrative to take over.
This tonight is enough for me.
The bird song before dawn,
the still air,
the hum of distant traffic,
a soft glow in the sky, a first coffee
allowing the day’s steady rituals to take over.
This morning is enough for me.
The pace quickens,
appointments,
ringing phones, desperate calls.
A sense of service
allowing the day’s driven chaos to take over.
This today is enough for me.
The evening recall
wine and slippers
with my loved one.
The great unwinding
allowing twilight’s peace to take over.
This always is enough for me.
