Farming Withers is dangerous for both you and your base, it might be a good idea to have it down at Bedrock unless you know for sure that you can contain it in a cage. With this cage, I know it won't escape (though I had a few failed attempts in a creative world before)...

I call this a farm even though it's not fully automated. Well, the killing can be completely automated (and already is), but placing items is a bit more tricky. Not decided what I'll use all the Nether Stars for but it will not be for power generation :)
