I had the chance to experience a proper English tea time at Fortnum & Mason's, and I could not stop comparing it to the thing I grew up with: German Kaffee und Kuchen. Coffee, cake, and a slow afternoon at the table.
They sound like the same ritual. Cake in the afternoon, something warm to drink, people you love around a table. But sitting there with the tiered stand of scones and tea sandwiches in front of me, I realized how different the two traditions really are. The food, the timing, the whole feeling of it.
In this video, I am sharing what I learned and what it was like.
