💠 Synthetic biology uses new and efficient gene-editing techniques, such as CRISPR-Cas9. Gene drive mechanisms have warped the inheritance of a certain genetic variable so that it spreads more rapidly over decades. Scientists hope to use synthetic biology to preserve habitats and restore animals. A synthetic version of the main ingredient in vanilla could be used to make other products. Singaporean scientists have designed a synthetic substitute for horseshoe crab blood cells.

A team at UC San Diego is close to field tests of an engineered gene drive for fruit flies. Synbio experts have been vigorously trying to revive the woolly mammoth and other endangered animals, such as the passenger pigeon. Scientists are introducing parts of ancient DNA code into modern-day relatives. This will expand the range of species to areas that are now shifting due to climate change. IUCN will discuss synbiotics at the IUCN World Conservation Congress in France this summer.

"Most of my colleagues don't see why they should pay a lot of attention to this," Some claim that these genetic methods have the "potential of destroying the natural world"

Thanks and Enjoy 🔥 🔥
