On the 1st of September 2024, an ATR 72-600 from Air New Zealand, operating flight 5366 from Chrishurch to Wellington, was on short final when the left engine started to emit smoke.

The aircraft landed safely, the pilots stopped the aircraft and shut down the engines. The passengers and crew evacuated safely.

What caused this to happen? Magnar examines three possible scanerios and explains the procedures pilots and cabin crew when follow when an engine catches fire.
