This is an arrangement of "Enemy Space Ship," the eighth stage BGM from Capcom's 1991 game Captain Commando. It has been arranged for native playback on NES hardware.
I was sufficiently annoyed at the quality of the music in the Super Nintendo version of the game (youtu.be/GCevHU19-Uk) to want to take a crack at it myself, but then I changed my mind and decided that it would be more fun to do it for the NES instead. I've been itching to make one of these oscilloscope videos anyway.
To make sure that the audio lined up with the visualization, this was recorded from an NES emulator, but it also loads up and plays just fine on my old toaster-model NES deck from a flashcart. The track was done with the SuperNSF driver since it provided a means for proper PCM sample playback which I used here for the kick, toms, snare, and the distorted square waves that give the guitars that harsh edge. I wanted it to rock hard. \m/

This video is a compilation of every episode of Segas 1999-2000 internet drama horror movie, Birdcage of Horrors (グラウエンの鳥籠, _Gurauen no torikago_ ).
The entire series recently received an excellent fan translation, and since were in the middle of spooky season, I wanted to share this thoroughly novel bit of Sega history with you all. If wondering just what in the Sam Hill youre looking at here, I imagine you arent alone. I had no idea what to make of it at first, either. This was quite an exotic media experiment, and I dont think there have been many productions like it since.
Gurauen no Torikago is a Sega-produced horror film for the Dreamcast. It initially aired between September 1999 and July 2000 as a series of 365 bite-sized daily episodes split across six chapters. Each chapter retailed for 2800円 and shipped on a single GD-ROM, and the discs were sold exclusively through Segas online store, Dreamcast Direct. Once you had the disc, you would jump online with your Dreamcast to download an update that would unlock that days episode.
Its pretty cool that something like this existed in age of dial-up, but the novelty of it all aside, Birdcage of Horrors is way, way better than I had expected it to be. Its both a murder mystery and a horror film, and I found it entertaining the whole way through. The writing, acting, and production values are decent, the story keeps up a brisk pace, and the special effects are great. Those splatter scenes really go above and beyond. Fun stuff!
You probably dont want to watch it with young kids, though. This is not PG material.
