This is sort of just a cool boss fight theme, the enemy is trying to wear you down until you can't fight any longer and darkness is clouding over.
The pixl queen has been taken over by evil's influence, ensnared by it's pitch-black tendrils and under the watch of it's hungry eye. She has become something else now; a gateway into our world through which demons can spread their chaos. Although, perhaps there is still a light shining deep within...

Sometimes the brightest lights cast the deepest shadows.
