End the Fed: Rotten from the Start - A History of Central Banking in the United States.
The people who understood economics and how markets work were dead set against a Central Bank. They were the Jeffersonians, and this battle persists to this day. Whereas the political heirs of the Hamiltonian side of the central bank issue understood fully well the criticisms, and they knew the criticisms were correct, that a central bank would be an engine of corruption. But their take has always been, 'it's good to be the King.' After all, if we have corruption, it's because somebody benefits from it. And so the people who want corruption always want an engine of corruption.
Thomas James DiLorenzo is an American economics professor at Loyola University Maryland Sellinger School of Business. He identifies himself as an adherent of the Austrian School of economics. He is a research fellow at The Independent Institute, a senior fellow of the Ludwig von Mises Institute, Board of Advisors member at CFACT, a member of the Mont Pelerin Society, and an associate of the Abbeville Institute. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Virginia Tech.
DiLorenzo began to study libertarianism in college, which he says helped him gain perspective on his developing ideas. He has a B.A. in economics from Westminster College in Pennsylvania.
DiLorenzo has taught at the State University of New York at Buffalo, George Mason University. and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
He is a former adjunct fellow of the Center for the Study of American Business at Washington University in St. Louis. Since 1992, he has been a professor of economics at Loyola University Maryland Sellinger School of Business.
DiLorenzo is a frequent speaker at von Mises Institute events, and offers several online courses on political subjects on the Mises Academy platform.
