Snippet from the upcoming "Hidden Corners: TROPICAL NORTH QUEENSLAND", Australia...
I saw this one slithering up a small creek in Coen, Queensland. The Eastern Brown Snake is an elapid (front-fanged and venomous) snake found throughout eastern Australia. Despite the potential danger, they play an important role in ecosystem balance. They would rather be given space and left alone- always scan and walk heavy while treading in venomous snake country! NEVER attempt to approach or handle a wild snake!
***note: you can call me stupid, unwise, etc.- to get this close. I didn't intend on finding it in my bare feet. I have professionally worked with snakes and have seen venomous snakes in the tropics before. I can read their bodies with confidence, and understand the risk parameters. I only want to educate and promote these beautiful creatures!
