The future of space-based astronomy requires ever larger telescopes to see the faint Earth-like exoplanets, first generation stars and early galaxies. But launching something so big is no easy task. That’s why researchers have generated a concept to build a telescope in space using a colossal liquid mirror more than 400 times the size of Hubble’s. This Fluidic Telescope concept, also called FLUTE, may one day bring new discoveries about our universe to light.
