Sean Piñeiro’s Emra Grid project returns to Opal Tapes (AJA, Yeah You) with a record of typically innovative electronic compositions. While there is a case to be made for calling From A Band Of Thoughts That Ended My Year an ambient album, the roiling surfaces and stylistic complexity of these tracks makes one reticent to commit to the term. If this is ambient music, it is in the Yves Tumor/Clams Casino mould - meditative, sometimes violent, holding beauty and horror in perfect balance. It’s a very good release.
