A short that encompasses some of Unearthing the Supernatural's otherworldly voices. 'Emortuus Vox' is an art film that uses only one living voice in the beginning (Hero) and the rest are EVPs captured on an SB7 Spirit Box.
Take in the morbid feeling and ponder the sounds you are hearing. These are the voices of those who have gone beyond our physical realms. Some voices are those seeking help for themselves or young spirits in need. Others are dark entities that seek to do harm to the UTS crew.

Task:
Using video clips shot on your phone, construct a 60-second experimental film.
1. Looking at footage already shot on your phone prior to the semester find repeated themes: videos of your dog, your friends laughing, clouds, food, etc. Maybe you typically shoot particular types of video clips when you’re making an Instagram/Snapchat/TikTok video/story. Where do you see repeated themes?
2. Make selections with these themes in mind. Are you shooting lots of things that are the color red? Are there a lot of plants in your video footage? Do you shoot video only while you’re walking?
3. Take this footage and combine the patterns. Do you see a narrative form? Do you see texture?
4. You must also create your own sound for the film - you may not use pre-recorded music for this project unless you have composed your own musical score and recorded it or you have taken pre-recorded music and made at least 3 significant alterations to it to reimagine it.
Create your film using these patterns, either to construct a creative narrative film (eg. A Trip to the Moon, La Jetee, Tangerine) or a non-narrative film (eg. Stan Brakhage’s texture films, Ballet Mecanique) Once you’ve decided on your narrative or non-narrative strategy using a pattern or theme, shoot additional footage with your phone to enhance and fill in what you already have to complete your Phone Film. Consider the possibility of using of text, still imagery, and sound to enhance the filmic texture.
