Manhattan to Miami, I worked in the dining car
Till Eisenhower built the interstates, and jet liners sailed the skies
Luxury trains were shuttered and the railroads up and died

These days guns are everywhere and they’re shooting everything
I saw my first black president, made me so proud I cried
I saw the insurrection, can’t say I was surprised

I am an old man now, my life is almost done

My wife of sixty years, died seven years ago
