Ophie Dokie | Emma Approved is Clueless: a study in Modern Jane Austen Adaptations [video essay] @ophie-dokie | Uploaded February 2024 | Updated October 2024, 1 hour ago.
Emma Approved was an Emmy award winning adaptation of Jane Austen's novel "Emma." Though it was a highly anticipated follow-up to Pemberly Digital's first series, "The Lizzie Bennet Diaries," I thought at the time and again as an adult that it lacked a lot of the magic the first adaptation had. That assessment is even more stark when you add in another adaptation. In this video I compare Emma Approved to 1995's Clueless, a movie I have infinitely more to say about than I got around to in this video, and I take a lot less time to do it than I did about Lizzie Bennet.
