"The days when even our hands do not stir are so exceptionally quiet that it is hardly possible to raise them without hearing a whole lot" – Rainer Maria Rilke (Letters on Life)
The days felt mostly long and shapeless, a melancholy pervaded, a quietness settled in. Sometimes that quiet felt like a friend, an introverted companion to cosy with on the couch and read a poetry book, or just stare out of the window with, watching cows work their way slowly across the grass on the hill. Would there ever be anything but this stillness again? I longed for movement, was desperate for it, at the same time couldn’t imagine stepping back into, inhabiting old modes. On writing this song came the realisation of how rich that quiet time was, how much there was to learn from it – ways that deserved passage into the future.

LYRICS
Has this time misshapen me?
Budding branch on fallen tree
I’m not who I used to be
I am not who I used to be
Budding branch on fallen tree
My new reply when nothing calls:
A poem read, a painted wall
Sad is sometimes beautiful
This sadness can be beautiful
A poem read, a painted wall
When this dream comes to an end
My introvert, my winter friend
Will you hide with me again?
Will you hide with me back here again?
I need you, my winter friend
What of this will stay the same?
The slowing down, the smaller days
The quiet ways that we have changed
The quiet ways that we have changed
The slowing down, the smaller days
Has this time misshapen me
Budding branch on fallen tree
I’m not who I used to be
I am not who I used to be
Budding branch on fallen tree
