In Emily's own words "I first heard 'Black Coffee' sung by KD Lang on her record 'Shadowland'. This album was one of my parent's faves so subsequently we had it playing a lot in our car on family holidays. It's a fantastic song and I've since also fallen in love with Peggy Lee and Ella Fitzgerald's versions. There's one slightly dubious line in the song, which I guess shows it's age: "A woman is born to weep and fret, to stay at home and tend her oven"...but maybe the original was intended to be sarcastic? I certainly hope so! Hope you enjoy my version anyway."
