Boston-based artist Emilia Ali was born when the career of her mother -folk singer-songwriter Barbara Kessler- was at its peak. Her mother and father (a drummer and a manager) took her with them to tour around the country until she was four years old. With the intention to spread love via music in her blood, Emilia feel into an artist career while studying music therapy at Berklee College of Music
After performing at a Berklee showcase her freshman year, Emilia was noticed by various producers and asked to collaborate. One of the first tracks she featured on was "Can't Let Go" by VALNTN, which has garnered over 20 million global streams.
In 2017, Emilia released her debut EP Dreamland, a collection of her very first collaborations at Berklee. In 2018, the EP was re-released by Listen for Pleasure/Capitol Records and debuted at #24 on the iTunes pop chart. Emilia's vocals and writing have also been heard on dwilly's 2018 single "ADD," which has surpassed 10 million global streams.
Emilia's writing has become inherently more authentic and vulnerable. You can hear traces of her mother's folk influence seeping through lyrically in her most recent features "Ur Perfect I Hate It" by Mickey Valen, "Special" with KEVLAH, and dwilly's "love is scary" released via Atlantic.
Currently, Emilia is cultivating her production skills and finishing her second EP, Girls Like You, set to release in late 2020. The EP will include her two most recent singles, "Beautiful" and "Loved the ocean." The latter interpolates her mother's original song "Notion."
With a lush vocal arrangement and harmonies at the forefront ala Imogen Heap, her cover of Blink-182's "What's My Age Again" brings a new life to the song.
