Join us in celebrating another successful year of the National Centre for Writing’s flagship programme, dedicated to championing new literary translators into English.

The Emerging Literary Translator Mentorships programme nurtures successive cohorts of literary translators into English, with a focus on languages whose literature remains underrepresented in translation.

Meet our talented 2026 graduates — fresh from six months of mentorship — who will introduce and share readings from their translation projects:

Kata Veress (Mentee: Faroese, mentored by Marita Thomsen)
Kristin Dilani Nadarajah (Mentee: Norwegian, mentored by Rosie Hedger)
Madeleine Wulfahrt (Mentee: Polish, mentored by Sean Gasper Bye)
Nachiket Joshi (Mentee: Languages of India, mentored by Mohini Gupta)
Philomena Ieva Marmion (Mentee: Lithuanian, mentored by Kotryna Garanasvili)
Quaid Cey (Mentee: Dutch from Flanders, mentored by Jonathan Reeder)

The Emerging Translator Mentorships Programme is supported by Arts Council England, Charles Wallace India, FarLit, Flanders Literature, Literature Translation Institute Korea, Lithuanian Culture Institute, Polish Cultural Institute, Royal Norwegian Embassy, South Asian Literature in Translation, Sheikh Zayed Book Award and The Society of Authors.
