Pieri, a remote town in Uror County, Jonglei State, South Sudan, faces extreme food insecurity due to ongoing conflict, seasonal flooding, and displacement. The situation in Uror County has reached Emergency-level food insecurity (IPC Phase 4), with some areas experiencing catastrophic (IPC Phase 5) hunger. Thousands of families are at risk of famine and require urgent food assistance to survive.

The World Food Programme (WFP) is prioritizing bringing families back from the brink of starvation. With impassable roads due to floods, WFP has been forced to conduct air drops to deliver much-needed humanitarian aid to those in dire need. These food airdrops are essential in the fight against hunger and malnutrition, providing food to over 2 million people in South Sudan, especially those suffering from severe malnutrition and food insecurity.

WFP’s efforts are focused on providing vital food assistance and nutrition support, including lifesaving treatments for malnourished children and mothers. In a region heavily impacted by conflict and environmental challenges, WFP's air drop operations are a critical lifeline, overcoming logistical barriers to reach the most vulnerable populations.

As South Sudan continues to face challenges related to hunger, famine, and conflict, WFP remains committed to providing emergency relief to communities at risk. Watch to see how humanitarian aid is being delivered in one of Africa's most isolated and vulnerable regions.
