In Nov. 2016, everything changed for the lives of my then 2 daughters and I. I became a single dad teaching HS drumline, having a full time job, and raising 2 girls on my own. Thankfully friends and family pitched in with love and support, but it was still a tough ride. On my birthday in May 2017, I worked all day and got off just in time to pick my girls up and take them home to get ready for bed. Samantha was fussy so Lilly had the idea to go for a drive so her sister would fall asleep. As we drove I had music playing on my stereo. A cool spring night. As we drove in the country with the windows slightly down, Lilly, in the front seat, reached over and grabbed my hand. "Rocketman" by Elton John was playing. I looked over at her and she smiled. That day was rough, but sitting in that car with my daughter holding my hand, smiling, looking out the window was one of the best birthday gifts I ever had. Sadly, Lilly no longer lives with Sammy and I, but this song will forever remind me of the pure love that existed on that day when everything was chaotic. When everything else was in shambles, my daughter holding my hand gave me hope....
