This is more of an interesting curiosity than anything else, as I explore a random planet on-foot, having tweaked settings to get the game running at 90fps in this particular location. It runs well for the most part, and I am even running the game above 100% supersampling (in-game and SteamVR settings combined).
You can access the vanity cam in Elite by entering the camera suite (I've bound this to A+X on my gamepad when on-foot), then press '3' on the numeric keypad to get an over-the-shoulder view. You can also remove the camera HUD in options (I've bound this to Y+B on my gamepad)
