To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Elite Dangerous shitposts. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of inter-factional drama, most of the jokes will go over a typical newbie cmdr's head. There's also Edmond Mahon's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterization - his personal philosophy draws heavily from war crimes committed from 3287 to 3306, for instance. The 1000+ hour cmdrs understand this stuff; they have the shield capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize that they're not just funny- they say something deep about the adjudication server. As a consequence people who dislike Elite Dangerous truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Harry Potter's existential catchphrase "Salome has left the building," which itself is a cryptic reference to Drew Wager's English epic 'Premonition'. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those freewinder noobs scratching their heads in confusion as David Braben's genius unfolds itself on their 4K triple monitors.
