About This Release:
Research Records continue their voyage into Elite Beat's extraordinary back catalogue with their second compilation Selected Rhythms Vol. 2. The chosen tracks are lifted from the Portland collective's three-part cassette series Casual Rhythms; a treasure chest of meditative and genre-defying instrumentals where percussion and dub accents prevail.
Elite Beat's approach to producing music is their routine for respite. The band reflects when they come together weekly, it's an opportunity to put down their other projects, ambitions, work and life stresses for a few hours and "just be." This spirit flows into their free-form expression, absorbing both the band and the listener. Additionally,Elite Beatreveals the foundation of their output lies in the discipline of being able to sustain vibration through repetition. There's a constant coiling mantra throughout each track, the band commenting "while many musicians can get totally bored playing the same thing over and over, we love it!"
The mixing process swings between embracing the warmth of live recordings and generating noise with analog manipulation. The band experiments with their recorded sound expressing "we are less concerned with sounding like 90% of recorded music out there and more concerned with trying shit out."Elite Beatalso cite dub music and it's process of recording as an inspiration and how this approach lends itself to a "deep listening experience," a notion the band channels artfully.
Remastered for the first time on vinyl, Selected Rhythms Vol. 2 adds to the immersive and interstellar tapestry of Elite Beat. The compilation delves deep into the healing and hypnosis that characterises the collective. For those who were inevitably left looking for more with Selected Rhythms Vol. 1, here's a no-brainer.

Digital Release: 19th July 2024
Physical Release: 19th July 2024
About This Release:
Big Yawn - NGB
Research Records welcomes back Melbourne quartet Big Yawn for their fourth full-length offering, NGBE.
Big Yawns ability to blend complex rhythm sections with infectious basslines, deep synth work, and tongue-in-cheek sampling remains ever-present, and perhaps is the most advanced weve heard yet.
Sitting in a world of its own, the album—named after the groups beloved and lost warehouse space, National Gallery of Brunswick East (where most of the material was recorded)—features a wide array of soundscapes spanning mutated drum n bass, low-key grime, rap, and dub-wise antics, all laced with a heavy dose of FX.
Equal parts deep and menacing, the nine tracks encapsulate Big Yawns evolution in the studio and on stage, most notably through their collaboration 2Stroke with Melbourne-based future rap prodigy Teether and brought to life visually with album artwork by Julian Hocking. Album: Bobby Business [ALBUM]
Track: 7 of 10
Title: Home Entertainment
Artist: E. Bobby G.
Label: Research Records
Cat#: RESEARCH16
Formats: Vinyl LP/Digital
Digital Release: 29th November 2024
Physical Release: 29th November 2024
About This Release:
Research Records teams up with organist and synthesist E. Bobby G. to release his sophomore album, Bobby Business. Once again, the album is primarily centered around the 1982 Kawai DX900, but it masterfully explores more genres than his debut, Giving You M.O.R.E.
Bobby Business was recorded in 2022 after E. Bobby G. received an eviction notice from his beloved sharehouse of 12 years. After moving out, he stored the organ at his workplace, Bakehouse Studios, where his boss let him use the space overnight to record until the early hours. The remainder of the album was recorded in his old studio space, NGBE.
The first track, Ha-Ha, is as meditative as it is glittery, with floating sustained chords. Big Boy and Disco Shift bring back a slightly more polished E. Bobby G. sound—lo-fi library music with bright tones that will appeal to fans of proto-electronic icons like Brian Bennett. Tracks like Lucky Strike and Tropical Dino Ride are video game music dreams, featuring West Coast lead lines and strutting percussion. The second half of the album explores spaced-out 90s downtempo and dub elements, with a distinctive refinement that hides the fact it was created primarily using the Kawai DX900.
Bobby Business closes with Lillian, a sonic dedication to the artists Grandmother, with a more traditional song structure that hints at what Bobby has planned next. E. Bobby G. - Home Entertainment [Audio]](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/yxWjA_giTYM/mqdefault.jpg)
