From less than 20 for the species the elephant seal has made a remarkable comeback, increasing to over 200,000 worldwide.

During the breeding season, males known as bulls will collect a harem of 40-50 females when they arrive.

Females can dive to a depth of 5,000 feet and remain submerged for 25 minutes.

A fully grown bull can grow to a length of 12-15 feet and weigh 5000 pounds and weigh up to 10 times more than a female.

The females have been woken from their slumber to the barking.

Bulls often enter into battles to protect their harems and to determine which is fittest to lead the herd, but will this end up in a viscious and bloody battle
to the death?
