Elden Ring is another classic courtesy of FromSoft, and not simply Dark Souls IV: Open World Edition. I've been a fan of the Souls series for years.
I was skeptical going in if Elden Ring was simply going to be Dark Souls 4 - open world edition. Those fears were quickly put to rest.
Elden Ring does a wonderful job integrating the open-world format into the souls formula. It avoids the pitfalls that most open-world titles fall into.
There's that sense of wonder and exploration in Elden Ring that's only matched by a few titles I've played. There are moments that are some of the best experiences I've had in years, maybe in all my time playing games.
It maintains a high bar of quality for a great period of time. That said, it's not perfect, and the back stretch makes those flaws apparent. There can always be too much of a good thing - and that is something Elden Ring falls victim to.
Overall, it's another outstanding title that Fromsoft has put together, and puts the work of so many others to shame.
Oh, and GRRM? Get those last two books out will you?
