You're meant to lose to the first boss of Elden Ring, but starting as the Samurai will give you a bow and therefore an opportunity to arrow cheese him. Keep your distance and shoot the Grafted Scion from out of his sword range, making use of your Weapon Art when possible in order to deal more damage - even through his shield. Headshots will also stun him and deal bonus damage, so be sure to capitalize on this while he's directly facing you with the shield down - this is easier in Phase 2 as he won't use the shield as much.
If you pull it off, you'll get a cool sword as a reward!
