E-Ink is finally fast enough for serious computing. The Bigme B13 colour E Ink monitor can run at 30 FPS, while newer Bigme devices are pushing refresh rates as high as 80 FPS. So, if speed is no longer the main problem, what is?

I tested the B13 as an everyday computer display, including wireless casting, HDMI, USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode, its different refresh modes, touchscreen controls, colour reproduction and ghosting. When everything works, the screen is genuinely impressive. Getting it to work reliably, however, reveals how much still needs to change before a proper E-Ink laptop becomes straightforward.
The E-Ink panel may finally be ready. The hardware, controllers and connections surrounding it are another matter.
