Eight juvenile green sea turtles went back home today!

After three months of intensive care at our Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Center in Apollo Beach, Mel, Pepper, Calico, Tula, Pompano, Phyll, Mo, and Mac were cleared for release to Ormond Beach.

All eight turtles were stranded off Florida’s East coast earlier this year due to cold stunning. Initially triaged at the University of Florida’s Whitney Lab Sea Turtle Hospital and Volusia Marine Science Center through a partnership with the FWC, these eight turtles, along with 22 others, transferred to The Florida Aquarium for long-term supportive care.

This release marks the largest of the year! It stands as a testament to the dedication and passion of our biologists and community partners, united in our shared purpose to save marine wildlife.

All marine turtle footage taken in Florida was obtained with the approval of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) under conditions not harmful to marine turtles. Footage was acquired while conducting authorized conservation activities pursuant to FWC MTP-24-179.
