These are the most important details to remember to include in every map.

1. Don't assume where players will go.
2. All player builds must be supported in the main story quests.
3. Side quests only need to support a few builds, but keep them balanced.
4. Leave room for side quests on main maps.
5. At least one POI should be visible from any point on an outdoor map.
6. Encounters should come in two types, anchored and non-anchored.
7. There should be rewarding exploration.
8. NPC's that move along regular paths are predictable and better for use in stealth areas than NPC's that randomly walk around.
