I love it when wildlife does something you don’t expect. After staring into the water, standing like a statue, it would put a leg forward and jiggle it wildly underwater, presumably to stir up the mud, then dart down with its beak to grab food.
Nearby, white-faced herons were catching worms and seemed to be eating a lot more. It's interesting that they're similar sized birds living in the same environment but with very different hunting methods.
Can anyone confirm this is a little egret (Egretta garzetta)?
