COVID-19 created a once-a-century public health crisis that, in turn, created a once-a-century public education crisis. A total of 50 million students nationwide lost the learning equivalent of a half a year of school. Prof. Jens Ludwig and the University of Chicago Education Lab have partnered with school districts around the country to design and test solutions to pandemic-era learning loss. Their research shows that intensive tutoring during the school day can double, even triple, what students learn in a year.
