‘Edjop’ film sparks campus conversation in Cebu
The story of slain student activist Edgar “Edjop” Jopson reached Cebu’s youth as the filmmakers and cast of “Edjop” held a campus conversation with students and faculty of Southwestern University PHINMA Cebu.
Director and co-writer Katski Flores, Elijah Canlas, who portrays Jopson, and Frankie “Kakie” Pangilinan, who plays his wife Joy, joined the forum, which tackled Jopson’s life, beliefs and struggles.
Flores said the team chose campus conversations to engage young Filipinos directly and give them a space to ask questions.
Canlas said he was initially offered the role of young Jopson but volunteered for the lead role. Already familiar with Jopson’s story, he said portraying the activist challenged him to prove he was worthy of the role. Pangilinan said the film carries a personal connection, as her father, former Sen. Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, gave her a book about Jopson when she was 16. “Edjop” is set for nationwide theatrical release on Sept. 16.
