Edible Gardens are a great potential to provide us with good healthy food.
All across the planet there are millions of ornamental gardens without much or any edible plant species. People spend lots of money, water and time to keep these gardens alive and healthy, yet they produce little to no edibles.
If we would slowly start replacing the species of plants that have little added value for trees and plants that have nutritional and medicinal use, we would need fewer supermarkets and fewer transportation companies.
The zero mile concept is actually fairly easy to apply when we look closely at our surroundings and start to see the immense untapped potential of our gardens.
Both privately and publicly there are literally thousands of superb locations to grow clean, healthy and nutritious food.
The home grown foods can be picked straight from the plants, shrubs and trees and be on our plates within minutes. No lengthy process from farm to truck, to warehouse, to truck, to supermarket, to car, to fridge, to plate. Instead straight and fresh to the consumer, without all the wasteful links in between.
All we have to do is reintegrate our primary needs back into our daily lives. Clean air, clean water, clean food and healthy thriving ecosystems deserve our attention because we are them!
The separation that we have made between "us" and "the environment" is a fictional illusion and a deadly one to keep making.
If we are to become unbound from our current destructive behavioral patterns, utilizing these sorts of untapped potentials is vitally important.
