It's an old debate, but sometimes I still see people argue about whether the edge or the flat is the "correct" part of the blade to defend with in a historical sword fight. There is evidence for both in HEMA manuscripts, and even in real damage to surviving swords from the Middle Ages and Renaissance.
But here is something that makes objections to edge parries seem a little futile, which I haven't seen / heard much, if at all...
