To be used alongside the spreadsheet at tinyurl.com/r5zy3kp6

Once the mission starts, the CP value is locked until you retreat, fail the mission (and allow the countdown timer to run out), or clear the mission. Feel free to retry the mission however many times you need.

Full instructions are provided in the spreadsheet, but this video pretty much covers everything. Find the weapon you need in the spreadsheet, and use your eyeballs to find the CP value you'll need on the left side of the screen.

FAQ:

Q: Does this work on the Japanese Vita version?
A: Yes, but X/O for Confirm/Cancel are swapped.

Q: Does this work on the Switch version?
A: I don't know at this time.

Q: Does this still work if I'm using an overclock plugin?
A: As long as it's set to Game Default (444/222), yes. If you're overclocking the game, the first few patterns will be OK, but at some point they'll be thrown way out of sync. So don't do that.

Q: Can you do this for me?
A: No, it only works in Ad-hoc mode.

Q: Can I do this online to help my friend from overseas to get a weapon he needs?
A: No, IT ONLY WORKS IN AD-HOC MODE.

Q: Can I get any weapon in the game with this trick?
A: Yes, but only weapons that are Level 36 and above will drop on 71 Inferno. For lower level weapons, you can use mission 2 on Hardest. Patterns for that are also included in the spreadsheet.

Q: Can you make any weapon in the game drop in mission 1 on Easy?
A: No, it doesn't work like that. These are all predetermined drop patterns.

Q: Mission 71 is too hard for me, can I use another mission instead?
A: Technically, you can. However, only the results for mission 71 have been recorded. If you use mission 72 instead, since the level range of the weapon drops is the same, they do come out in the same order that they would if you used mission 71. However, not as many items will drop, and if the weapon you're looking for is the tenth item in the game's internal table, it won't come out in mission 72, because that mission will only ever give you 9 items.

Q: I still don't understand any of it. What does "CP value" mean?
A: "CP" stands for "Change Points" and is the name I use to describe the hidden counter that keeps track of how many times the screen has been changed (by pressing X or O) once you're in the room. The name was coined by the anonymous Japanese wiki user who originally found this exploit.

Q: Can you explain all of this with sock puppets?
A: Maybe, if you provide the materials for me.
