It seems that ARCA through the development of its ecological propulsion technology truly opened the door for the creation of a new generation of eco-friendly launchers.
The Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation ISRO announced that they are working to replace the existing hazardous fuel with environment- friendly fuels for its rockets. ISRO is looking at rocket engines powered by hydrogen peroxide as a mono-propellant or as a bi-propellant along with ethanol.
The hydrogen peroxide as monopropellant generates only water and oxygen. Depending on the concentration, they will have specific impulses in the range that starts from the value of our water-based Launch Assist System.
ARCA was also using hydrogen peroxide as monopropellant since 2003 launching suborbital rockets as Demonstrator 2B, Helen, or an undisclosed type of rocket during Mission 8. It works and the fact that a highly respectable organisation like ISRO is pursuing this is a confirmation that we are right, we were right all along, and we know exactly what we are doing.
Using lower specific impulse boosters or first stages, based on hot water, or hydrogen peroxide will lead to extreme low cost, high safety, and environment protection, elements that matter more than the specific impulse for the overall launch economy. The specific impulse is of secondary importance when we are talking about first stages or boosters.
If the EcoRocket will reach orbit in June this year, using water for more than half of its propellant we will change the launch industry forever. We will undoubtedly demonstrate that there are viable alternatives to the polluting, extremely expensive, 70 years old technologies.
