The EU Ecodesign regulation demands to transition from IE2 motors to IE3 in Europe. The yearly replacement of IE2 motors by ABB’s IE3 motors can sum up to 3.4TWh of energy savings over their lifetime, this is equivalent to ~4 months of the electricity demand of the city of Zurich.
