Outbreaks are becoming more frequent, more damaging, and harder to recover from. Yet investment hasn’t kept pace with the risk. 

The COVID-19 pandemic exposed the cost of delay: late reporting, unequal access to vaccines, and fragmented coordination. 

Building resilience means strengthening laboratory networks, trained workforces, risk communication, supply chains, and trusted local response capacities. 

Following the UN High-level Meeting on Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response in September, leaders and changemakers will convene at the World Health Summit 2026 to carry discussions forward.
