At a press conference in Geneva on the 2nd of September 2026, WHO Director-General Dr Tedros said "In the fight against the Ebola epidemic in the DRC, we have made a lot of progress, but it’s not enough, and we still face major challenges."

Earning and keeping community trust and community ownership are key to changing the trajectory of the epidemic.
