Samuel Stokes | EBENEZER musical teaser @SamuelStokesMusic | Uploaded 6 years ago | Updated 2 hours ago
This is a teaser from the one-act musical Ebenezer, based on Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol, adapted by Samuel Stokes, with music and lyrics by Samuel Stokes. This is an excerpt from the number "Jacob Marley - O Come, O Come, Emmanuel" performed by the composer.
Ebenezer Scrooge's partner, Jacob Marley, has been dead seven years this very night, wandering the afterlife shackled in chains. Knowing that Ebenezer would suffer the same fate as himself, he returns to warn Ebenezer of his impending doom if he doesn't change his ways by helping those in need rather than harming those around him to grow his own wealth.
The musical Ebenezer will be available for purchase on Sheet Music Plus in July 2018. To keep updated on when it is released, subscribe to this channel, bookmark http://www.SamuelStokesMusic.com , and/or follow Samuel Stokes on Facebook at: facebook.com/samuelstokesmusic
Text:
CHORUS:
O come, O come, Emmanuel, and ransom captive Israel.
MARLEY:
In life, I was your partner Jacob Marley. I was gnarly
In the business that we started, but it's not for the fainthearted
Bringing others down to lift yourself up, to fill your cup,
But I had trouble seeing my business was my fellow human beings!
When I should have helped the needy, I was always only greedy,
And I should have been feeding them, but instead I was bleeding them,
Evicting them, convicting them for debts that they owed,
Kicking them out in the rain to suffer misery and pain.
Soon your soul is going to be required
CHORUS:
O come.
MARLEY:
And you'll lose all the things you have acquired
CHORUS:
O come.
MARLEY:
Everything you own will go to someone else.
CHORUS:
O come, O come.
MARLEY:
You must listen to me and save yourself!
CHORUS:
O come, O come, Emmanuel, and ransom captive Israel.
MARLEY:
Now I'm in chains, which is plain to see,
to wander eternally, but what remains to be seen
Is whether you will shun my grisly fate.
You must change your ways now before it's too late!
Soon your soul is going to be required
CHORUS:
O come.
MARLEY:
And you'll lose all the gold you have admired
CHORUS:
O come.
MARLEY:
You'd better make your business mankind,
CHORUS:
O come, O come.
MARLEY:
Or your chains will be heavier than mine!
(in background - CHORUS: Ah, Ah, Ah, Ah)
Tonight you will be visited by three spirits.
I fear it's your last chance for salvation from damnation,
But there's still time, Ebenezer, for your evil deeds to be undone.
Expect the first ghost…
MARLEY and CHORUS:
When the bell tolls one!
CHORUS:
O come, O come, Emmanuel, and ransom captive Israel.
