Marquetry is a beautiful artform that often seems a bit too intricate for most of us. The thought of specialist tools and different types of wood can be a bit daunting but you can make a start on the basics of marquetry with a few things you probably have in your stash and a single sheet of light coloured wood veneer, or even a handful of wooden coffee stirrers!
Corinne shares her first foray into the world of wooden jewellery using thin wood veneer, alcohol ink markers, a craft knife and a handy sheet of vinyl transfer tape.
Carefully cut, stain with markers, and assemble on a gridded sticky sheet to make stylish herringbone pattern earrings and stripy pendants with ease. Strengthen with cross grained pieces of veneer fixed with a good contact adhesive, hand drill a fixing hole, lightly sand and varnish to make beautiful, lightweight jewellery pieces to keep for yourself or gift to a friend this Christmas.
