Hook size: 4.5mm (or a 5mm)
Yarn: Worsted weight
BASKET
WORK THESE ROUNDS INTO A MAGIC CIRCLE
Black
1: Ch2. 8 hdc into the MC. Tighten the circle, and join to the top of the 1st hdc with a slst. Ch2. (8)
2: 2 hdc into each st around. Join to the top of the 1st hdc with a slst. Ch2. (16)
3: 1 hdc into the 1st stitch, 2 hdc into the next. Repeat around. Join to the top of the 1st hdc with a slst. Ch2. (24)
4: 1 hdc into the next 2 stitches, 2 hdc into the next. Repeat around. Join to the top of the 1st hdc with a slst. Ch2. (32)
5: 1 hdc into the next 3 stitches, 2 hdc into the next. Repeat around. Join to the top of the 1st hdc with a slst. Ch1. (40)
6: Sc in each st around, BLO. Ch 1. (40)
7: Sc in each st around, Ch 1. (40)
White
8&9: Sc in each st around, Ch 1. (40)
Black
10&11: Sc in each st around, Ch 1. (40)
White
12&13: Sc in each st around, Ch 1. (40)
Black
14&15: Sc in each st around, Ch 1. (40)

This round is optional, but gives you a nice finish around the top and helps your little basket to hold its shape better.
16: Crab stitch around the top of the basket. This is a single crochet worked backwards instead of forwards. Instead of single crocheting from right to left like we have normally been doing, start crocheting from left to right, working your way counterclockwise around your project. Finish off.
HEARTS (make 3)
Work all of these stitches into a magic circle.
1: Ch2, 3 treble, 3 double, ch1, treble, ch1, 3 double, 3 treble, ch2, slst (the slst is worked in the magic circle as well. Not into the top of the first stitch made.) Carefully pull the tail of your yarn to tighten up the circle, and finish off.
You can either stitch these hearts to your little basket, or hot glue them on.
