Here is an EASY paper tutorial for a hanging stocking that can holder a gift card, treat or just be decorative. I can even see it being created as a dog bone treat holder!
Start with a 6x6 paper, fold vertically in half, then open and fold about 1" over on top for the cuff of the stocking. Round the open, bottom corner for the "heel" of the stocking with the same circle you use for the "heel and toe" patches, then punch two circles of the same size for the heel and toe. Glue the back and bottom of the stocking together, then cut and glue the toe and heel as shown in the video. Punch a hole, tie, and decorate as desired.
For you crafty animal lovers, I can see this being a dog bone treat holder as well, by just changing where you cut and glue the circles.
