Some East Windsor homeowners could soon save hundreds of dollars a year on their property taxes under a new exemption program.
Following a recent rule change, the Board of Selectmen voted to allow qualifying homeowners to exempt 15% of their home's assessed value. Officials say homeowners could eventually save an average of $500 to $1,300 a year. Residents must live in the home and apply to qualify.
The change will shift more of the property tax burden to other properties, including commercial properties, raising concerns from some in the business community. Applications open next Tuesday and run through the middle of December.
