How can international collaboration accelerate breakthroughs in diabetes research?

In this interview from the 61st EASD Annual Meeting, EASD tv host Vivienne Parry speaks with Prof Daisuke Yabe from Kyoto University about why EASD has become a truly global scientific community.

Professor Yabe discusses the important differences between diabetes in Europe and East Asia, particularly the contrasting roles of obesity, insulin resistance and beta cell dysfunction. He explains how researchers are learning from these differences to improve diabetes care worldwide.

The conversation also explores one of the most exciting areas of diabetes research today: iPS cell-derived islet transplantation.
