Come and discover the beautiful and incredibly distinctive Earthbound Tarot by Celine Gordon, a 78-card tarot deck inspired by the landscapes of New Mexico and Utah.
What makes this deck particularly fascinating is that Celine didn’t simply create an earthy aesthetic. She foraged rocks and natural materials from the landscape, crushed them to create her own pigments, made watercolour paints from those pigments, and then used them to paint all 78 cards. In other words, the earth that inspired the deck literally became part of the artwork!
With its muted mineral colours, atmospheric landscapes, human figures, animals and wonderfully organic artwork, Earthbound Tarot has a raw, ancient and deeply grounded quality. The traditional tarot archetypes are given Celine’s own distinctive interpretation, while the Minor Arcana and court cards bring an especially strong sense of place and connection to the natural world.
I’ll be taking you through the deck card by card, looking at the artwork, symbolism, presentation and those fascinating earth pigments, as well as sharing my first impressions of this very special independent tarot deck.
This is much more than simply a nature-inspired tarot. It’s a deck that has literally been created from the earth. 🌿
